You can buy helpful insects from various garden supply shops or get them on the internet. Do make sure you buy from a knowledgeable source, since it’s not just a matter of opening a box and shaking out your new insect helpers.
Another type of biological control is biopesticides. These are pesticides made from natural materials. But they can be as toxic as synthetic chemicals, so make sure to read all directions.
Last resort measures -- Chemical Controls In biointensive IPM, when you have tried all the above methods for pest control, but are unsuccessful in managing an acceptable level of infestation, then, and only then, is a chemical control introduced.
If you have to resort to chemicals, using the least toxic chemical is the best thing you can do. An Extension agent can help you decide which pesticide is to use for your particular problem.
Disclaimer: Federal EPA Regulations declare that the label is the law! Pesticide users are forbidden to use a pesticide in a way contrary to labeling. Please read the pesticide label prior to use. Any use not indicated on the label is prohibited. State and local laws may be more stringent than federal requirements so check with your local jurisdiction for regulations.
